Postdoctoral Fellow Opportunities in Translational Science in LGBTQ Health
NU-THRIVE Center: Postdoctoral Training Program in Translational Behavioral Science in HIV and Mental Health (T32MH130325)
Northwestern University’s THRIVE Center is pleased to announce the availability of TWO postdoctoral fellowship positions starting in Summer/Fall 2026. These positions are funded by our NIMH T32 training program in Translational Behavioral Science in HIV and Mental Health. Note: One position is for a two-year fellowship and one position is ideally for a candidate who has already completed one year of post-doc and is seeking a second one-year fellowship. These fellows will join a cohort of four other fellows (one first-year, two second-year).
THRIVE is a research center within Northwestern’s Impact Institute. Our mission is to conduct cutting-edge research with a translational focus. We aim to translate our findings from quantitative and qualitative studies into efficacious interventions that can be effectively implemented in the community. As part of our educational mission, our postdoctoral scholars will gain knowledge of each of these areas of behavioral translational science through mentored research, a regular seminar series, and opportunities for more intensive training. Extensive opportunities exist to gain exposure to and mentorship on grant writing and other key professional skills. Prior trainees have been highly successful in being hired into faculty positions and securing competitive research grants. We welcome and encourage applicants focused on interdisciplinary work.
The NU-THRIVE training curriculum is diverse and was designed specifically to meet the needs of the next generation of translational scientists in HIV and mental health. Training consists of:
- Mentored research with a primary and secondary mentor, including working on existing research projects and/or proposing new research initiatives.
- Bi-annual intensive trainings in our four translational science domains: Quantitative Methods, Qualitative Methods, Interventions & Trials, and Implementation Science.
- A weekly seminar that rotates between presentations on: Research Skills, Professional Development, Faculty Presentations, and Works in Progress.
- Structured writing support, including a weekly writing group and bi-annual writing retreats, designed to improve manuscript and grant writing skills.
In addition to gaining breadth of knowledge in each of the four translational science domains, fellows will specialize in two of the four domains to solidify depth of knowledge. Extensive opportunities exist to gain exposure to and mentorship on grant writing and other key professional skills.
